StocksCafe in 2018

Happy New Year!

Review of 2017

2017 has been an exciting year for StocksCafe. It started with the change of name to StocksCafe, which included the migration of domains as well as architecture change. I remember it caused many issues in the beginning and I truly appreciate your patience during those times.

The main reason for all those changes was to prepare for expansion beyond Singapore. And now, StocksCafe supports four countries’ exchanges namely Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong (China), and United States. These took significantly more time and effort than I had expected due to the initial poor assumption of supporting only Singapore market when I first started coding StocksCafe, and also because United States data is coming from a different provider as it is cheaper.

All in all, 2017 was a great year. Thank you all for your support! Let’s continue to work together to make StocksCafe better!

Focus of 2018

Beyond the regular bug fixes and impromptu features implementation, there are two major areas I would like to focus on in 2018.

What and When
When I first started StocksCafe, it was meant to help me trade/invest. However, as I have gotten busier with my full time job and StocksCafe, I have scarcely have time left to properly monitor my portfolio or make trades.

This was where I felt StocksCafe was still insufficient. Wouldn’t it be great if StocksCafe can proactively tell me what I should buy/sell and when is a good time to do it based on machine learning, statistics, or simply some determined rules?

This was when I created the Screener Alert Email which will send me an email to tell me if any stocks have fulfilled certain criteria that I have set. That was my first step. In 2018, I intend to build more features around empowering busy investors who do not have time to check on their portfolio daily.

Improve Mobile Experience
This is something I wanted to work on in 2017 but failed. What will be different this year is that I have outsourced this problem to my wife 🙂

She is currently testing different app builder platforms that claims to enable people to easily build mobile applications without the need for coding. If you know of a good platform, please let us know!

May 2018 be a great year for StocksCafe and you!

Cheers,
Evan
