Expenses Update: September 2016

I am finally back writing after a two week hiatus.

This year, somehow I have quite a few Primary 6 students and as the PSLE was coming up, I was bogged with requests to add lessons to prepare them for their first National Exams.

And with PSLE ending today, I can finally free up some time for the blog again. In fact, most of my days will be free after another three weeks when all the school examinations are over.

Which also means I need to start preparing for next year’s work. I am currently earning close to $40k a year and I am aiming to increase my income to $60k next year. As a start, I have spent an additional $1,800 to install an aircon in my living room so that I will only teach from home on weekends.

Therefore, it’s not surprising to find out that this month’s expenses was pretty high, coming in at close to $5,100.

Here’s the breakdown.

Eating Out: $724.90

Hawker ($198.50) – A little lower than usual as the Mrs cooked more often.

Fast Food ($29.30) – A couple of meals at Mac’s and Long John’s.

Restaurants ($497.10) – We are a little spendthrift on Friday nights as it’s our date night. Yup, no lessons almost no matter what. Our budget for Friday dinner has actually increased to around $60.

Groceries: $127

Supermarket ($127) – More trips to NTUC to get some tidbits and fruits. I really enjoy the new Oreo Thins (Tiramisu).

Beverages & Snacks: $39.50

Snacks ($26.80) – Some durian puffs and a couple of Mr Bean ice-cream

Drinks ($12.70) – A few Koi and sugar cane drinks

Utilities: $186.85

Electricity, Gas & Water ($90.30) – Electricity usage was higher at 291kWh for this month. 17KWh of gas and 7.2 Cu M of water make up the rest of the utility bill.

Cellphones ($96.55) – $51.55 for me and $45 for the Mrs for our mobile services. Mine comes with upsized data.

Transport: $150

1 EZ Reload transaction for me and 2 for the Mrs.

Miscellaneous: $2177.60

Gifts ($412.60) – Two students celebrated their birthdays this month and one of our classmates got married too!

Air conditioner ($1,765) – A 24,000 BTU System One in the living room. Next up is to install a door for our kitchen so that the living room would be cool when the aircon is on.

Total: $3,405.85

Overall Total: $5,090.85 (included fixed expenses of $1,685)
