Disposable Gloves (Courtesy of Werneuchen, Wikipedia)

I was inspired by a few bloggers as well as a friend, who found investing ideas from daily life (sadly, those stocks are not for me, don't understand them).

So while I was working at my manufacturing plant, I looked for consumables that my company used in huge quantities and (hopefully) the company was listed in Singapore.

I happened to hear about Riverstone Holdings selling gloves for cleanrooms for HDD manufacturing as well as specific healthcare markets from fellow bloggers, and that they are a market leader in their products for their niche.

I tried to find the brand of gloves my company used in huge quantities yet it was always brandless when I see them.

So I tried looking manually myself, peeking when the storeman brought in the gloves to fill my glove boxes, only to find the product code but no brand. Google search of the product code turned up nothing.

I tried emailing Riverstone's Investors' Relations, yet, sadly, they told me due to disclosure issues they couldn't tell me.

So I started looking around the purchasing for my company logistics for any ideas (hopefully). I stumbled upon a record where I found a list of consumables and their brands and vendors (sadly none of them list in SGX).
However, I managed to find that it came from a local vendor, that carried a Malaysian brand "Sinetimed". A quick search on Google showed that it was owned by Riverstone!!!
And from what I have observed working there, generally, pharmaceutical plants here use the same products, so if my company purchase them, most plants doing similar work would use them as well!

That means huge sales volumes, paired with wealthy clients, it suggests that it will stand to make loads of money!

So, Riverstone holdings is now added into my watchlist (I still have to look through the company and crunch the numbers though). :)

  1. I think the best ideas are those companies that produce things everybody use (and often!) all the time.

  2. Did a few posts in Riverstone before. A bit dated, but worth a look if you are interested.

  3. Very Impressive Growth for RiverStone in both the top-line and bottom-line growing significantly. Free cash flow is good, the firm’s balance sheet remained strong and debt free.

Do compare with the regional players such as Ansell Limited and Kimberly Clark Corp which also supplies clean room gloves. In term of medical gloves, there are Hartalega Holdings Berhad, Top Glove Corporation Bhd and Super Max.

Questions must be asked on how much can Riverstone grows? Compare with the above mentioned players, what are the competitive edge of Riverstone and why was it better than its competitor.

    1. Hi Solace, yup, I have yet to compare with other competitors (sadly none of them lists here). Will keep that in mind.

As for growth, I'm looking at less growth and more stable dividend income (less growth oriented as I'm not too good at looking at growth, so I aim to buy purely based on it stays stagnant ^^"). I'm also trying to find out what is the exact moat. Still looking at it. Now I'm just focusing on churning numbers for all my selections, before zooming in further in each stock :)

  4. A brief look at riverstone PE of 18-20 might suggest market is pricing it as a growth stock. Current dividend yield is not on a high side, as i believe it is retaining much earning for further capex.

I have not study in details, might be something you want to look into.

    1. Hi Solace,

      Thanks for replying! :)

Yes, as of present it seems to be more of a growth stock, quite pricey :(

Payout ratio has been around mid 30% to around 50% if I am not wrong.
